The building presently housing the offices of National Bank of Pakistan, was until 1955 was the centre of high silk which was used to be produced here and exported to the world over. Luqman Weaving factory’s prominence during its hey days can be noticed from the fact inscribed on its main entrance as “India’s Leading Silk Weaving Factory, Luqman weaving works”. Following the days when the state of Khairpur lost its entity, all the institutions or the monuments that contributed towards the welfare and prosperity of the state through out their existence, were left abandoned and almost all facing the same fate wore deserted look with the passage of time and majority of them are the last lag of their deterioration. The Luqman Weaving factory was at one point was purchased by Aziz Rehman Memon, who rented out its one portion to NBP while the rest has been ruthlessly dismanted.
