Colonel Shah Hostel, Khairpur

The red-brick 38-roomed hostel situated just apposite to the building of Naz High School was a one-time hostel facilitating the boarders of school. This hostel was named after one Mr. Colonel Shah, who was then a high government functionary and was a close friend of Chief Minister of the state, Mr. Mumtaz Kizilbash. The commemorative plaque on the main gate of the hostel, inscribe as follows:

“This hostel was built in the time of Mirza Mumtaz Hassan Kizilbash Esq. Chief Minister of Khairpur state and Mr. Allah Dino Khan Siyal, education minister of state, 1952 Mr. Jr Colabawala Chief Engineer and Irrigation Adviser”.

Besides this hostel, a spacious mosque was also built for the boarders. Presently the hostel building has been converted into Pak-Turk International School and College. The facility of boarding was rare in those time and that was only accessible to the residents of big cities such as Hyderabad and Karachi. Following the establishment of Colonel Shah Hostel the interest and enthusiast among the students of the rural areas of upper Sindh grew to an un-proportional level and it attracted a large number of students from the entire state as well as outside it. The boarders were provided with free accommodation and free food. [Source: Khairpur Jewel & Crown of Sindh by Momin Bullo]
