Shaikh Tayab Graveyard, Khairpur

Shaikh Tayab Graveyard in village Kolab Jeal (Deh Kolab) can very well be ranked as one of the oldest and biggest graveyards of the province. This is situated to be 400 years old, spreading over 60 acres of land. The graveyard houses an ancient graves and tombs, most of them are in ugly state and facing uncontrolled deterioration. The grave of Shaikh Tayab, a saintly figure of the time, stands in a recently constructed tomb. The history or the life account of Shaikh Tayab is unknown. The grave of Syed Muhammad Baqa Shah (martyred in 1195 Hijri) father of Pir Muhammad Rashid Rozay Dhani (the first Pagara Pir of Sindh), is also situated in this graveyard. It is said Syed Muhammad Baqa Shah was fond of books and once he was passing through the area with a bag full of books on his head was attacked by the robbers and was killed. The robbers felt ashamed when they found books in the bag instead of the treasure. Before his death, Syed Muhammad Baqa Shah forgave the robbers and urged his heirs not to take revenge. Thus, he was buried in this graveyard. The grave of Hazrat Baqa Shah is surrounded by a wooden chamber and the construction and renovation was recently under taken by the stalwarts of Pagaro family.

The graveyard also houses chowkundi graves of Tajars (chambers) of Talpur Ameers, most of them have been destroyed by the local thieves in search of so called hidden treasure. All the four Tajars are decorated with beautiful fresco designs. Due to the negligence on the part of provincial or the district government administrations, this graveyard is fastly losing its historic significance in the wake of fast deterioration of the monuments.
