Maryam Cannon belongs to the Mir Sohrab Khan Talpur period, the founder of the Sohrabani family of Talpurs of Khairpur. This is one of the rarest pieces of the bygone era, which is on display on the old National Highway running across the town of Khairpur. According to history Maryam Cannon was discovered by Mir Bijar Khan from river Indus near Dolatpur and donated it to Mir Sohrab Khan. The gun inscribed a description in Portchogaiz language and 1537 has been mentioned as its year of manufacture. The cannons of Talpur period had their own names and few other famous cannons like Saffan Saffa, Mulk Maidan etc, were taken away to Lahore sometimes during the one unit period. While some are still planted in the premises of Takar Bungalow, Kot Diji, Faiz Mahal and at the main gate of DCO's House and Office at Khairpur.
