Kandh Kot Gas Field is located in upper Sindh on the right bank of River Indus, 88 km southwest of Guddu Barrage and 44km south of Sui Gas Field. It comprises of three independent gas bearing domes.
PPL discovered gas at Kandh Kot in 1959 when it drilled Kandh Kot Well-1 on the Northeastern dome. It was spud on 7 March 1959 and was drilled to depth of 2,079 meters. Gas was discovered in Sui Upper Limstone (SUL) and Sui Main Limestone (SML) and Habi Rahi Limestone (HRL) reservoirs.
Kandh Kot's Well-2 was spud on 3 January, 1971 on the Western dome and drilled to a depth of 1,554 meteres. This too proved gas in both SUL and SML.
Although natural gas in both Northeastern and Western domes was confirmed, the Kandh Kot discovery remained dormant for a number of years due to lack of gas demand in the country.
