Prologue: It is an evocative black and white photograph: Lt Col Mack P. Soparivala, ex-chairman of Bai Virbaiji Soparivala Parsi High School, presenting guard of honour to Quaid i Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah in Feb 1948. Both gentlemen are looking elegant and dignified. The picture is an object to treasure, along with the one hundred year old tables, in one of the library sections of the BVS School. To be honest, the whole of the institution is full of stuff that reminds you of the days when Karachi was synonymous with dignity, peace and discipline.
Atmosphere: The instant you walk through the school's entrance gate, you realise there's something delightfully anachronistic about the place. There are trees as aged as the stonework, towering over the boundary wall facing Abdullah Haroon Road (formerly known as Victoria Road). The building is spartan yet eye catching in character - like a Greek god. You lift your head to appreciate the façade and read ‘Bai Virbaiji Soparivala Parsi High School Established in 1859'. A little below it is inscribed the date of it construction on, ‘1905'.
