Mirpur Burirro, Jacobabad

The village of Mirpur Burirro in Thul taluka carries a great historical significance. An ancient mud fort of Talpur period and a small mosque within its compound, built in during the early Talpur period, have been completely destroyed amidst sheer negligence coupled with natural disasters that played havoc with the fragile structures and caused its complete up rooting. According to a legend that one AN Muhammad Burirro was a faithful employee of the Talpur rulers and let them helped in discovering hunting ground to them at present area which was obviously covered in dense forests inhabited by variety of hunting species. The ruler selected the place and ordered for the construction of a mud fort in the area. It was voluntarily constructed by the old inhabitants of the area mostly belonging to Burirro caste.

The covered area of the fort is stated to be small in size with extra ordinary thick walls. It provided safe and secure stay to the rulers and their guests during their hunting trips in the area. With the discovery of new hunting field, the rulers built a big water reservoir near the fort area mainly to provide drinking water to the wild life living in the thick forests. Perhaps it may be on the pattern of water reservoir built by the rulers of the Khairpur state near Choondko in taluka Nara. Although the water reservoir of Choondko, which was constructed with stone and bricks and is very much intact even today. But ironically, like the fort, the traces of Odee Water reservoir are no more visible. Following the construction of the water reservoir the area began to be known as Odee (the present village near Mirpur Burirro) .

Mir Karam AN Khan Talpur appointed AN Muhammad Burirro care taker of the fort and later on it was gifted to him. Soon after the establishment of village of Mirpur Burirro, AN Muhammad Burirro, the architect of the new settlement for his community men, allowed many small communities to settle in the village and encouraged growth in its population.

With the passage of time and due to the sheer negligence of the inhabitants as well as the heritage protection agencies, the ancient fort was subsequently demolished by the present generation of the dwellers and a cluster of new buildings emerged on the site. The village is by and large inhabited by the people belonging to Burirro caste.
