Hingorani Syeds Ruins, Hyderabad
The archaeological site famous as Hingorani Syeds is situated in Tando Fazal, about 20 kms off Hyderabad in the east. The existing site of Hingorani Syeds spreads over an area of about one square mile. Many unscientific diggings have been made at various places which have spoiled the original feature of the site. It contains now a few ruined buildings including two mosques, a tomb and several fragments of high walls scattered all over the site which indicate that there had been a number of magnificent buildings here in the days of its splendor.
A grand mosque is built of thin and small size bricks and is plastered with lime. It contains a large prayer hall by three domes, the interior of which is ornamented with floral designs, which have faded due to negligence. The central dome is comparatively bigger.
It is interesting to note that the northern wall of the prayer hall is supplied with a staircase within the space of the wall. The mosque also contains a vast courtyard but its boundary walls have been ruined. Only the fragments of the eastern wall exist. There is a vast open space (with diggings at several spots) adjacent to the mosque in the north, surrounded by high walls which indicate destroyed additional living places. The back side of the mosque wall has four wind catchers, which provide fresh air to the hall. The remains clearly indicate that a 'Madressah' was attached to the mosque.
Gazetteer of Sind "B" Volume II, Hyderabad District, by JW Smyth, 1920, contains the following details about these ruins:
"ln the vicinity of Tando Fazul are some striking ruins, the most remarkable being a 'Mari' or storeyed house of which on wall, almost intact, rises to a sheer height of 40 feet. These are the remains of the town of Hingorani, the former seat of a family of powerful Syeds, which was among the places wrecked by the Afghan Sardar Madad Khan in or about 1775."
