KB Azim Khan Building, Hyderabad

The city of Hyderabad, a well-planned urban centre of pre-independence era, was once famous for its beautiful gardens, wind-catchers, evening breeze and numerous gorgeous monuments of historical significance.

Recently Sindh Cooperative Society invited bids for its auction in complete contrast to the fact that the building was declared as a protected heritage by the Sindh Culture Department, under the Sind Cultural Heritage Preservation Act 1994, in 2009. The act is aimed at protecting and preserving buildings and historical places, having historical, archaeological, artistic and ethnological significance. Members of the civil society and heritage preserving organizations have demanded for the preservation of the building and converting it into a library cum resource centre.
