Pirr of Ellicott, Hyderabad

Ellicott, a Christian boy, son of a nurse working Lady Dufferin Hospital, Hyderabad, embraced Islam during early 1940s and adopted Shia sect. He was named as Abdul Rahim. Due to his great respect and love with Hazrat Ali (AS), he developed wooden Tazias and Jhoolas in reverence. Initially, he started with sewing the processionists of Muhrramul Haram with cold water and eatables and later on he acquired a land outside the main gate of Pucca Fort and established Imambargah, now famous as 'Ellicott Jo Pirr'. The grave of Ellicott alias Abdul Rahim is situated besides the Imambargah.
