Haji Ashraf Thebo Bungalow, Badin


A magnificent architectural land mark in village Ripp, Union Council Peeroo Lashari was built by a lady named Mst. Imamat Khatoon, as a souvenir to his lone son Haji Muhammad Ashraf, about 90 years ago. Total expenses incurred on its construction are stated to be Rs. 90,000. It comprises over 8 massive bed rooms, and a spacious drawing room. The height of the roof is unusually high based on wooden beams & battens covered with glazed kashi tiles. Chips and tiles have been used in the flooring. The entire bungalow is covered with perforated wooden doors and windows. Haji Ashraf Thebo, was a famous zamindar of the whole district and he was known by his philanthropy, charity and the hospitality in the area. He established a school with a boarding house in his village and the expenses of the house were used to be borne by him. Moreover, he also purchased some houses in Mecca to offer free accommodation to the pilgrims. He died in 1955. He had two daughters and a son named Muhammad Raheem alias Budhoo. He was among the few big zamindars of Laar famous for big land holdings. Among others included Pir Aali Shah, Mir Ghulam Ali and Hashim Sarejo are also included.
