Sohagan Duhagan Tombs, Sukkur

The tombs are located in Deh Arore, Taluka Rohri and District Sukkur. The tomb of Suhagan and Duhagan, are a marvelous piece of architectural ingenuity, built in cut and dressed brick work. These tombs as the name carries belong to two sisters Sohagan and Dohagan. Sohagan meaning a lady whose husband is alive, whereas Dohagan means a widow or who did not have happy married life.

The exposed brick style of construction presumably came to this region from Mithri in Sibi District (Balochistan), where tombs built in similar style dated back to 11-12th century A.D.(Shaikh Khurshid Hassan, 2001, pp, 35) and are also known to be Pre-Mughal funerary architecture. Such exposed brick architecture is also reported in Afghanistan, southern Punjab, Baluchistan and these are considered to be of Ghurid period. In Sindh there are few reported. There is a tomb built in the same style called Pir Bachayo tomb (also known as Sher Shah tomb) which is located near Shah Shaker Shrine, Arore, Sukkur. Another two tombs built in the same style (cut brick style) located in Pano Aakil, District Sukkur. These are the tombs of Shaikh Lalu and of Pir Baid Ahmed Sultan. Shaikh Lalu's tomb is later in time around 967 AH/1560 A.D.
