Syed Ali Shirazi, Thatta

To the north of the last and on the other side of a valley is the large and conspicuous tombs of Syed Ali Shirazi, built of brick, with a large and two small fluted domes, all plastered and white- washed. There are inscriptions on some of the tombs within the enclosure, but none on the Syeds. This venerated man was chosen to carry the offerings of the people of Thatta to the Emperor Humayun at Umarkot. He died in 1572 A.D. and his tomb is said to have been built by disciples of the Jokhia tribe. Syed Mohammad Shirazi died in 1397-1398 A.D., having been in Sindh for 14 years. His descendants, the Shirazi Syeds, were settled in Thatta and their graves are on the Makli Hills.
