Shaikh Jia, Thatta

Shaikh Jia was the son of Shaikh Niamatullah, a descendant of the famous Multani saint Bahauddin Zakariya. Shaikh Niamatullah is supposed to have come to Thatta in the days of the Makli hill. In the same style it is externally plastered leaving long vertical panels, created by raised vertical lines, interspersed with rectangular holes in the upper part. The walls are battered in the same way. It has its melted entrance fitted with stone door frame-a new feature in this monument but not seen in the old mosque. The door frame is plain but it has a central block at the lintel and the half moon-stone at the sill. Another smaller arched entrance is provided to the right at the south-cast corner, which gives access to a staircase leading to the top. The arches are all pointed and broad and hence later than the Samna period.
