According to the Arabic inscription preserved over the eastern entrance of the enclosure, the foundation of the building was laid in Jamadi-al-Awwal, 895 A.H/A.D. 1490 and the name recorded is Khan al Azam Miyan Mubarak Khan, son of Sultan Nizamuddin Shah. Mubarak was the adopted son of the Sultan, his real name being Darya Khan. The second inscription over the southern entrance gives the full genealogy of Sultan Nizamuddin and speaks of Darya Khan's victory over the Mughals i.e. the Arghuns, and names his son Ahmad. It seems that the son completed the tomb after the death of the father Darya Khan in A.D. 1519.
