Gurdwara (or temple) at Kandra in the outskirts of Rohri, is a prominent worship place of Sikh community. This was founded by Sant Tharya Singh, who was son of a common shop owner of the village.
In his grown up age he was attracted to sufistic teachings and began distributing the shop articles among the needy and poor. Despite warnings and regular beatings by his father to undo the practice, he didn't stop and ultimately he was thrown out of the house along with his wife by his father.
Sant Tharya Singh later on moved to a nearby village of Begmaji and setup a shop for his livelihood, which too met the same fate due to his habits of helping the poor and needy humanity.
Besides that he often used to escape to the nearby jungle spending time into meditation. When he lost the business he had to put one sale his belongings to run the langar (distribution of free food). It led to the circumstances when his spouse decided to leave him and shifted to her parents. Later on he joined the temple of Gurdasram and spent his time in the services of devotees. He was again thrown out from the temple by the Gurdasram and had to seek refuge in village's masafirkhana, where the local communities provided him clothes and food. He continued recitation of Grugranth Sahib in the musafirkhana and attracted the circle of his disciples. Mukhi Bhojmal of Kandhra got built a Dharmshala besides the musafirkhana and provided him the permanent refuge. He died on 26 January 1927. Gurdwara after him name in the Kandhra has been recently reconstructed, which remain center of pilgrimage by the devotees round the clock.
The smadhi of Sant Tharya Singh is situated in the suburbs of the village. Presently the population of Hindu community in Kandhra comprises 250 souls and among them 2 Sikhs also live here.
