Kot Bambhan Thul, TM Khan


The site is located at about 48.27km's south of Tando Muhammad Khan city and about 16.09 km's north of Kario Ghanwar village in Taluka Tando Ghulam Hyder, District Tando Mohammed Khan. It is a multi-period site with a tower/thul situated on a 20ft high undulating mound. The tower is constructed with burnt bricks and mud mortar in masonry, and its present height is about 16' feet from the surface of the mound. Total surrounding area of the mound/site with artifactual material scattered on the surface, is about 4.2 Acres. The tower was constructed in three steps or layers (internal, middle and external). The measurements of the internal or inner part die of the tower is 4'.2", height 16', the second layer," middle part" die is 8' height 6' and its base (external skin layer) die is 9'.2"ft. There was a large number of artifactual material present on the site belonging to different periods including one silver coin (the context not known as given by the villager found from the surface of the site), the coin is of Aurangzeb Alamgir period. The artifactual evidence found from the surface of the site included grinding stone, pottery: plain, painted and stamped including black color potsherd and glazed pottery. Terracotta animal figurines, Terracotta toys, Shells etc. was also part of the repertoire. There was evidence of a wide burnt bricks wall, perhaps a fortification wall, on the southern side of the mound, to the south of the tower. The Thul perhaps belong to the Buddhist period, built around 5th-6th century AD.
