Panj Gula, Khairpur

Panj Gula is a down town area of the city. This has been famous for the five renowned personalities living closely in the area. They were Syed Panah Ali Shah Budhal-l, Syed Abid Ali Shah, Siraee Dinnal khan, and Siraee Ganhwar khan. An old mosque of Kalhorra period in the vicinity of Abid Shah's house lost its existence recently and a new mosque was constructed by Syed jaffer Shah. It is said that Abid Shah's house was connected with Thalho Ali Raza through an underground tunnel. This tunnel originates from Hadeero of Ali Raza and is claimed to be 10 to 12 feet deep and may be as long as two furlongs, by the elders of both the families of Thalho Ali Raza and Abid Shah. They also claim that the traces of same tunnel still exist and require study so as to establish the purpose of its construction. Punj Gula round about is surrounded by number of monumental buildings; majority of them have fell prey to callous attitude of the society and criminal negligence of the administration and have been replaced with new constructions while hardly one or two buildings of state period could have survived and still kicking. Those, which no more exist now included Rustam Mahal (constructed by Mir Rustam Khan Talpur), Fojdari Police Station (built during the rule of Mir Faiz Muhammad khan Talpur in 1896 with the estimated cost of Rs.70762), old Municipality, old Forest office (built during the reigh of Mir Faiz Muhammad Khan Talpur in 1895 with the estimated cost of Rs. 3499), and an old High school while the lone survivor is Talpur Talkies Cinema, built during the 1990s.
