The Yakoob Biscuit Factory, situated on Shikarpur Road, was the oldest and biggest factory of its kind throughout upper Sindh. It was established in 1937 by a Hindu merchant J.B. Mangharam and the factory remained popular after proprietor s name until the partition of 1947. After partition, the Hindus migrated to India and the factory was taken over by the Evacuee Trust and at one stage it was allotted to Muhammad Yakoob; who, after acquiring its ownership changed its name. Best quality of cookies were used to be produced and supplied to far off places. The factory employees had a registered workers union known as Collective Bargaining Agent (CBA). The vagaries of the time also didn't allow the new business to nourish and the magnificent at one point it was also shut once and for all. The deserted infrastructure is witness to its one-time glory.
