This factory was established in Sukkur in the early 1960s during the era of FM Muhammad Ayub Khan. It spreads over about 25 acres and more than 200 employees are on its payroll. Its daily production is stated to be 400 sleepers. Besides this, there are three more factories of its kind presently functioning in the country which included Kotri, Kohat, and Khanewal.
Before its conversion into sleeper factory the premises were used to be the Lansdowne bridge workshop. One of its portions was used as the foundry for preparing girders of the bridge.
An ancient clock tower on sleeper factory road is wonderful art of stone masonry. Presently it lies dysfunctional.
