Madressahtul Islam, Sukkur





The Madressahtul Islam Sukkur was built in 1905, as evident from the foundation stone affixed inside the main gate of the institution. It was mainly built to cater to the educational needs of Muslim population of the city and its surroundings. It was runned by a board headed by the collector of Sukkur district. It is situated just beneath the Masoom Shah Minaret.

In 1911, a project to build a boarding house was launched. One storey was constructed that year at a cost of Rs 17,236; while the upper storey was added in 1941 at a cost of Rs 6,750. It remained in the possession of the District Madrassah Board until i960, when it was given by the Board to the Government High School and was utilized as an annex until May 1962. It was then handed over to a management board, with a view to setting up a Girls' College in the premises. In October 1968, Agha Nizamuddin Girls' College started functioning in the building. The District Madrassah Board Girls' High School, was run by the same management board. After nationalization in 1972 both establishments were taken over by the Government.
