Gaooshala, Sukkur





"Gaoo" or Gaoon" is a Sindhi word meaning cow. Gaooshala is a rehabilitation centre of cow, which is regarded as a sacred animal in Hindu religion. This Gaooshala was established by Seth Balchand Rajpal in 1906.

On Bunder Road, for the welfare of ailing cows. Thousands of animals were properly reared and cared with religious spirit. Besides it there was also a veterinary hospital run by the hindu community. Gaooshala still exit in the same premises but the vicinity has acquired new identity of Hira Medical Centre road. The institution had also some branches in Narainpur, Kirishanpur (presently in Bahawalpur), Pano Akil and Kandhra as well.
