Hametan Jo Daro, Thatta

It is situated in village Raj Malik, Jati taluka, ten kilometers away from latter place, on eastern side, and is open to the elements of sea, thus in dangerous condition. There is a building, which is supposed to be mosque. It seems that the effect of sea or shortage of fresh water, ruined this village and it was depopulated. There many mounds can be seen, which are scattered in nearly three kilometers square area. Native people called them "Hametan ja dara" (mounds of Hametan). Dr. James Burnes came to Sindh for the treatment of Prince Mir Karam Ali Khan in 1831 AD. He pronounced it "Hemuit" and called it "desert area, and there was a guard post, where one could get water from the dhuban (swamp). He informed that at Hemuit, those personalities sent from darbar to him, had travelled by route of Ruree.
