Syed Shah Murad Shirazi, Thatta

He was born in 831 A H, his grand father Syed Mohammad came to Samui from Shiraz through Qandhar enroute Sehwan. He met with Qazi Namaitullah Abbasi at Samui, who betrothed his daughter named Bibi Fatima to him. Syed Mohammad leaving Samui went to live at Syed Pur near Sehwan, where he died at the age of 70 years. Syed Ahmed Shah came to Thatta for living. The grave of Shah Murad is situated on Makli hill, and could be seen from far away. The territory along with the graveyard of Shah Murad is now in a ruined condition. There are many tombs and graves of saints near that graveyard including graves of Shaikh Jhando Patni, Mula Lutar (Mula Abdul Rehman) and others also situated in that wetland. All these areas are in the western sector of the city, to the west of the Shahi Bazar. In the northern half of this sector is situated the "Masjid Wali-i-Ni'mat" which was also called "grand mosque" (Kabir Masjid), and according to the local tradition, was being used as the Jamia Masjid" prior to the foundation of the Jamia mosque of Shah Jehan. Also according to the tradition, the "Masjid Wali-i-Nimat" once had a madersa where the famous saint Shah Murad (831-893 A.H) received his education. This would indicate that the northern part of the western sector was the main city area during the later Samma period.

Shah Murad had directed Lakhdir and his son Mulo to leave the Shirazi Muhalla and take their residence in the southern sector. This Thatti was still in existence when Mir Ali Sher Qani wrote during the last quarter of the 12th/ 18th century. He died at the age of 62. There are confusion about his date of death, and Pir Hisamuddin Rashdi quoting "Mauaraf Anwar" states that he died on Monday, 12 Rabi al-Awal at the time of evening. Shah Murad Sugar Mills has been establishment at Jhok Sharif.
