Hem Kote, Thatta





It is situated about one V/z kilometer away, from Thimpin Town on the precipice of Keenjhar Dhandh (lake) as a ruin of a place, called "Jhim". This is a precursor of an ancient fort. Mir Ali Sher Qani states that "along the Sonda, in ancient times, was old fort, which was called "Hem Kote". Celebrated anthropologist and writer Rasul Bux Dars claims that, "it was a democratic state, whose Raja (king) was Geo son of Daryano Mai. His capital city's name was Jhim. Jhim word means: subordinate, lower, inferior. It is located in lower position ambiance of hills, a ruined fort. In ancient times, a channel would run named "Darya Sau" (green river) a branch of Indus River. Fort was on bank of a River. When army of Mohammad bin Qasim, attacked on Jaisena, son of Raja Dahir, he took sanctuary in Hem Kote. He however, fled but Arab invaders occupied that fort. It seems, the fort was built before the reign of Brahman dynasty. It imperative that the work of excavation ought to be carried out for further chronological data.
