Pir Husamuddin Rashdi, Thatta





Pir Husamuddin Rashdi died in April 1982 and buried at Hill, on the south of Makhdum Mohammad Hashim Thatvi and Shaikh Abdul Majeed Sindhi by his will. He was son of Pir Syed Mohammad Hamid Rashdi born on 20 September 1911 AD/25 Ramzan 1329 AH., Thursday morning half past seven in Behman kot village, about two kilometers away from Nusrat Station, Larkano. He formally studied only to four classes at home, in Sindhi, Persian and English, but book reading habit acquired from childhood, and personal study led him to become a leading scholar of country as well as subcontinent. He at inception became a journalist of newspaper "Jagan", and for some time he became editor of monthly "Al-Manar" in 1929, and also remained stinger correspondent of monthly periodical "Paigham". He remained editor of newspaper "Sindh Zamindar" from 1930 to 1934. The owner of this newspaper was Khanbuhadar Ayub then prime minister of Sindh. After some years, the two brothers, Rashdi and Pir Ali Mohammad Rashdi published a weekly newspaper Sukkur. He wrote many essays and columns in "Alwahid" and in "Qurbani" newspapers anonymously. He became member of Sindhi Adabi Board in 1953. He was also a member of "Anjuman Taraqi Urdu". He became advisor of "Liaqat National Library". When Government Pakistan established the National Museum, he became a member of it. He became editor and member of Central Urdu Development Board. He became member of Karachi University Academic Council in 1957 and become a member of Syndicate of Sindh University Jamshoro in 1963 and became a member of Senate from 1957 to 1958. He also remained member of Research Society of Pakistan of Punjab University in 1963. Khuro, the Pir Hisamuddin "Sitara Sindh" in 1934 from He was a prolific writer and research scholar. His 45 books have been published besides having written many articles and essays in magazines and newspapers of country as well as abroad. His famous books are: Makli Nama, Mehran joon Mojoon, Ho Dothi Ho Denhan, Galhion Goth Wanan joon, Galhion Munhanji Sindh joon, Tazkirh Amir Khani, Tarkhan Nama, Tarikh Mazhar Shajehani etc. He received an award "Nishan Sipas juld awal" from Iran in 1963. In 1964, Government of Pakistan conferred on him a award of "Tamgha Imtiaz" for his contribution to literature.
